Rachel Kerrison

Rachel Kerrison was born and brought up in the Bath area and after many years in other parts of the country returned to live in Bath 10 years ago.
Although she trained as a teacher and more recently worked as an adult Basic Education Tutor, she has always needed a creative side to her life. For 9 years she enjoyed jewellery making as a hobby then in 1996 decided to take it more seriously and enrolled on an HNC/BTEC at the school of Art, Bristol. From there the hobby has grown into a small but successful business. She is still studying and is currently doing a City and Guilds in jewellery at the City of Bath College.
Her work is mostly hammered or forged. She is endlessly fascinated by the way she can change the shape of metal just by hammering. She especially enjoys the interaction of the material's natural inclination and her skill and design. Her source of inspiration is usually the work that has gone before. Each piece leads her on to new ideas and variations and she loves to experiment. Her aim is to produce jewellery that is very simple, natural and has an intrinsic unity. She does not like a polished finish and often leaves the marks of the tools and lets wear produce a natural patina. Above all she enjoys the making process - she just loves to hammer.
